Legion Woods

Two three–story, early 20th century buildings, in a state of severe disrepair, were saved from the wrecking ball when NCA designed their adaptive reuse as supportive housing for 20 veteran service members with special needs. The original floor levels of the two structures did not align, and were in such poor condition that you could clearly see the sky above you from the basement. As a result, the exterior shells alone were retained while a new building was inserted inside. The two buildings were joined by an addition that became the lobby, with elevator and fire escape access. The individual apartments are designed to be fully accessible and to enhance the living experience of the veteran clientele.
